Each season Girls on the Run Girls on the Run Montgomery & Delaware Co, identifies and selects a dynamic group of coaches to lead each of our teams of 8-18 girls. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.

Site Liaison Overview

 

The Site Liaison is a volunteer position that works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. The Site Liaison can also serve as a coach. This position requires excellent communication and organization skills, entailing approximately 4 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

Core Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Upholding Girls on the Run Core Values
  • Act as primary contact with GOTR staff
  • Assisting in the recruitment of at least 4 coaches for the site (if you are coaching you are one of the 4)
  • Setting up a meeting with coaches prior to the start of the season
  • Coordinating practice space at site (indoor and outdoor)
  • Providing GOTR with necessary info for online program registration (practice days and times, key contacts, etc.)
  • Working with site to distribute materials explaining registration to all girls who will be in 3-5 grade (GOTR) and/or 6-8 grade (Heart & Sole) at the time of the season
  • Take the lead on marketing the program to parents and age-appropriate girls via PTO meetings, newsletter articles, faculty/staff meetings, website, open houses, etc. prior to registration period
  • Act as primary contact if school or parents have questions
  • Coordinating picking up items from GOTR office such as marketing materials, supplies, t-shirts, etc. several times throughout the season
  • Providing occasional feedback to the GOTR office as requested or as necessary
  • Reading/reviewing weekly communication from GOTR staff and taking necessary actions

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Requirements:

  • Woman or Man
  • At least 21-years-old
  • Completed Coach Registration for the current season
  • Completed background check
  • Attend a four-hour coaches training with Girls on the Run Montgomery & Delaware Counties staff

Coach Overview

Coaches work with a team of coaches to deliver the Girls on the Run Curriculum while serving as a role model and mentor for program participants. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uphold Girls on the Run core values
  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Assist with all aspects of the facilitation of weekly lessons
  • Collaborate with other coaches for successful lesson delivery
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K (you are not recuired to be a runnner in the 5k)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 16 years old (High School Students are considered Junior Coaches)
  • Must consent to and complete a background check
  • Complete a 1.5 hour online training
  • Attend a Girls on the Run 5 hour in person Coach training
  • Able to attend practices once or twice per week
  • Have fun!

 

Regional Liaison Overview

The Regional Liaison position is a volunteer who will work closely with teams in our council to implement evaluation strategies and ensure quality programming. The Regional Liaison has a strong desire to mentor and carry out the core values of the organization while supporting our 2018 coaches.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Passion and alignment for Girls on the Run Mission!
  •  Two year experience as a Girls on the Run coach 
  • Able to prepare and present evaluations in a manner that motivates others to act on recommendations
  • Able to work in collaboration with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to engage with, listen to and learn from a broad range of coaches
  • Excellent communication and organization skills including to responding to GOTR staff emails within 24 hrs. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend Regional Liaison 2 hour training at the Girls on the Run Office
  • Attend and facilitate a Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole lesson at ONE of the 2017 Spring Coach Trainings in February.
  • Ensure quality programming during the 2017 Girls on the Run Spring Season
    1. Provide 1 or 2 on-site visits to 6-8 sites within an assigned geographical region
    2. Complete site evaluation form after each site visit and submit to GOTR staff within 48 hours. 
    3. Provide appreciation, resources, suggestions and camaraderie to coaches prior to and/or following the site visits
    4. Communicate with GOTR staff regarding improved quality programming and coach support 
  • Serve as a role model by fostering and exhibiting the Girls on the Run core values!

Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN AND WHERE IS COACH TRAINING?

There will be three coach training sessions (Locations for Training 2018 TBD). Attendance at 1 session is required EVERY 2 YEARS in order to fulfill coach role. 

CAN I CHOOSE THE SITE WHERE I COACH?

Coaches may indicate a preference for the site at which they would like to coach. If coaches do not have a preference, we will assign them to a location in need of volunteers.

WILL I BE REIMBURSED FOR COACHING EXPENSES?

Each Site Liaison receives a Visa Gift Card mid-season with an amount in proportion to the number of girls on the team. The gift card is to be used for the end of season celebration and team gifts. Reimbursements will not be issued if expenses are over the amount on the gift card.
