Each season Girls on the Run Girls on the Run Montgomery & Delaware Co, identifies and selects a dynamic group of coaches to lead each of our teams of 8-16 girls. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.

Site Liaison Overview

 

The Site Liaison is a volunteer position that works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position requires excelent communication and organization skills, entailing approximately 4 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

Core Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Upholding Girls on the Run Core Values
  • Act as primary contact with GOTR staff
  • Assisting in the recruitment of at least 4 coaches for the site (if you are coaching you are one of the 4)
  • Setting up a meeting with coaches prior to the start of the season
  • Coordinating practice space at site (indoor and outdoor)
  • Providing GOTR with necessary info for online program registration (practice days and times, key contacts, etc.)
  • Working with site to distribute materials explaining registration to all girls who will be in 3-5 grade (GOTR) and/or 6-8 grade (Heart & Sole) at the time of the season
  • Take the lead on marketing the program to parents and age-appropriate girls via PTO meetings, newsletter articles, faculty/staff meetings, website, open houses, etc. prior to registration period
  • Act as primary contact if school or parents have questions
  • Coordinating picking up items from GOTR office such as marketing materials, supplies, t-shirts, etc. several times throughout the season
  • Providing occasional feedback to the St. Louis council as requested or as necessary
  • Reading/reviewing weekly communication from GOTR staff and taking necessary actions

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Requirements:

  • Woman or Man
  • At least 21-years-old
  • Completed Coach Registration for the current season
  • Completed background check
  • Attend a four-hour coaches training with Girls on the Run Montgomery & Delaware Counties staff

Coach Overview

Coaches work with a team of coaches to deliver the Girls on the Run Curriculum while serving as a role model and mentor for program participants. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uphold Girls on the Run core values
  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Assist with all aspects of the facilitation of weekly lessons
  • Collaborate with other coaches for successful lesson delivery
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K (you are not recuired to be a runnner in the 5k)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 16 years old (High School Students are considered Junior Coaches)
  • Must consent to and complete a background check
  • Complete a 1.5 hour online training
  • Attend a Girls on the Run 5 hour in person Coach training
  • Able to attend practices once or twice per week
  • Have fun!

 

Junior Coach Overview

The Junior Coach is a volunteer position for high school students to assist the Head and Assistant Coaches at a Girls on the Run program site. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Junior Coach must be 16-18 years old
  • Must be a high school student
  • Attend Girls on the Run coach training
  • Able to attend practices once or twice per week
  • Have fun!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down of games and lessons
  • Provide one-on-one attention to program participants
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Lead an activity with assistance and supervision of the Head Coach if desired
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K

Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN AND WHERE IS COACH TRAINING?

There will be three coach training sessions (listed below). Attendance at 1 session is required EVERY 2 YEARS in order to fulfill coach role. (If you attended coach training last year, please leave room for our new coaches. Thank you.) If you and a new coach and have not registered for one of the trainings please email Kelly DePalma at kelly.depalma@girlsontherun.org for the registration link.

CAN I CHOOSE THE SITE WHERE I COACH?

Coaches may indicate a preference for the site at which they would like to coach. If coaches do not have a preference, we will assign them to a location in need of volunteers.

WILL I BE REIMBURSED FOR COACHING EXPENSES?

Each Site Liaison receives a Visa Gift Card mid-season with an amount in proportion to the number of girls on the team. The gift card is to be used for the end of season celebration and team gifts. Reimbursements will not be issued if expresense are over the amount on the gift card.
