5K Committee Spotlight

5K Start

Year after year our 5K committee has been integral in the success of our Girls on the Run 5K. Meeting monthly from September to our 5K date in late May, 5K committee members help recruit volunteers, design our team village, secure donations, and much more! 5K committee members each get assigned to specific roles, so if you are passionate about event planning, community outreach, or carrying out the GOTR mission there is a role for you!

Read the testimonial of longtime 5K committee member Michelle Ross, Manager of Compliance at Exelon Corps, below:

“I was 30 before I completed my first 5k, so for these girls to finish one at such a young age is a huge accomplishment! While volunteering for one of the 5Ks I remember watching the girls who finished waiting and cheering their fellow teammates along. Even the last girl who crossed the finish line, they made her feel like she was the first one to finish! Being a part of the planning team to ensure the experience is one to remember for these girls is incredibly rewarding, and getting to see the results on race day when the girls cross the finish line is awesome!”

On asked why she would encourage other people to join the 5K committee, “I was able to contribute my love for running, enjoyment of event planning, and passion around the GOTR cause to help with the 5K event. Working with a group of  like minded individuals come together for a common mission made participating worthwhile!”
